/// LAB — AI OR HUMAN

AI or human? Guess who wrote it

AI or human: decide from a single paragraph. The human passages come from writers whose work is now in the public domain, quoted word for word with a link to the source. The AI passages were written by Claude for this game, on the same topics and at the same length.

How to tell if AI wrote a text

There is no reliable tell: careful readers get single paragraphs wrong, and automatic detectors err in both directions. Still, some things are worth noticing. AI sentences often share one length and one rhythm, adjectives arrive in threes, and a paragraph likes to end on a generalisation that adds nothing.

A human author more often leaves an odd, specific detail, an uneven rhythm and a thought that doesn't round itself off. None of this is a rule, only a reason to look closer: good writers can be smooth, and AI sometimes lands a detail.

Where the texts come from

The human passages are prose by writers who died before 1955, in the original language. After you answer, the game shows the author, the work and a link to an open library where you can read the whole text.

Line breaks inside paragraphs were joined; the words are exactly as in the source.
